Teahouse with Ama Dablam in the BackdropGhandrung teahouse trek is a short trek in the foothills of the Annapurna Himalayan range. The trek offers panaromic views of the Annapurna Massif, Machhapuchhare, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri and a host of other peaks. It is a moderate grade 2 trek, in other words a reasonably fit person can do it. The highpoint of the trek is the visit to the village of Ghandrung. Inhabited by the Gurungs, the famous Gorkha soldiers Ghandrung is the second largest village Annapurna region. Picturesque with its orderly rows of slate-roofed houses clustered on a canyon wall Ghandrung looks beautiful.

The route on the trek passes through forested area, terraced fields and goes through many settlements of hilly people offering insights of lifestyle. The prevalent religion the inhabitants follow is either Hinduism or Buddhism.

Teahouse trek follow well-liked routes to popular destinations in foothills of the Himalayas. The teahouses are usually small basic lodges offering accommodation and food to trekkers. Since teahouses are usually located in the villages, a teahouse trek provides opportunities to learn more of our culture. The guides normally select the ideal teahouses in the villages, and if required, will go ahead to find shelter in peak season. Teahouses are also a meeting point for trekkers from various parts of the world.

A teahouse trek day starts with a wake up call around 6:00 am. Breakfast is about an hour later allowing you enough time to wash up and pack up before starting the trek at around 8:00 am. Throughout the trek, your guide and the porter will accompany and assist you. In average, the walking duration varies from four to six hours a trek day. Upon reaching the destination, the guide selects an ideal teahouse and allocates a room/s for you. Dinner in the teahouse restaurant is around 7:00 pm before retiring for the night.

The guide will meet you at your hotel at 8am and take you to Phedi, from where the trek starts. Trekking in Nepal normally means ascending uphill and descending downhill alternately. Likewise, on this trek initially the trail takes one uphill to reach Dhampus. Dhampus offers magnificent view of Machhapuchhare. We trek further up to reach Pothana. Here we stop 1.5 hours for lunch. From Pothana the trail ascends to Deurali and then descends through the forest of Bhichuk to reach Tolkha. Here, the guide will arrange accommodation and dinner in a teahouse. The trail offers dramatic views of Machhapuchhare(6993m), Annapurnas, Lamjung, Manaslu(8157m) and Dhaulagiri(8167m) Himalayan peaks.

Wake – up call usually given at around 6 am. The breakfast is around 7 a.m. The trek starts at around 8 a.m. Initially the trail descends via the village of Landrung to Modi River - a permanent river formed from the glaciers of Annapurnas. Here, we cross a suspension bridge stop at Ghandrung besi for lunch. From thereon a flight of stone steps ascends upwards to Ghandrung. At Ghandrung the guide will allocate a teahouse to arrange accommodation and dinner.

Once again the breakfast is around 7 a.m. and the trek departure at around 8 a.m. The trail from Ghandrung descends downhill via stone steps and terraced fields to Syaulibhatti, where we stop for lunch. Then the route trails by the side of Modi River and at times through forests to reach Birethanti. Here, we cross a suspension bridge to reach Nayapul. Thus, the trek ends. A car will transfer you to take you to your hotel in Pokhara. The guide will escort you until the hotel and check you in.

LEISURELY ADVENTURES (GRADE 2)

These treks generally involve 4 to 6 hours walking per day on average. Any active person can easily participate on these trips and any reasonably fit person will find them exhilarating. For preparation, we recommend a program of sports or aerobic activities (cycling, swimming, etc.) minimum of 2 to 4 weeks before departure. Remember that the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the adventure.
